Biography
Ambassador Alan Deniega is a career diplomat who began painting when he was a young boy. Inspired by his father, who taught him how to draw, he practiced painting with crayons and watercolors. Growing up in the hilly and forested areas of Antipolo, he enjoyed nature and drew inspiration from his surroundings. He gave away his handmade bookmarks and greeting cards as gifts to friends, viewing art as a means to forge bonds and communicate feelings on a deeper level.
His perspective on art remained unchanged as he pursued his studies abroad. Although he majored in journalism and writing at the University of the Philippines, he continued to value the visual arts, which he saw as possessing the power to transcend words and convey thoughts and ideas beyond one's cultural milieu.
Immersed in the Japanese aesthetic sense during his seven years of schooling in Japan, where he studied in the vibrant cities of Tokyo and Osaka, as well as in the rural scenic area of Niigata Prefecture.
His love for painting was reignited during the pandemic lockdowns in Ottawa. Drawing upon his experiences in Japan as a student and diplomat, and blending the influences of his years in Singapore, Belgium, and Canada, he began using acrylic as his medium to interpret various objects and landscapes from his years of study and work in other countries.
As Consul General in Singapore, he led the Philippine Embassy in various exhibitions featuring Filipino artists. Subsequently, in Ottawa, he conceived and organized an art exhibit with other diplomat-artists. Additionally, he connected with artists in Bangladesh, where he assumed the role of Ambassador in 2021.
