Biography
For a while Cameron used to work in the semiconductor and hard disk drive industry and retail before finding his way back to the art world. It was hard to resist the calling of his uncle, National Artist Eduardo Castrillo and his legacy coupled with years of tutelage under his wing. Learning from the best, he accepted the challenge and embaced his passion. He has participated in numerous group exhibits including the Annual Sculpture Review, Visayas Art Fair, ManilaBang and the prestigious Manila Art Fair. He held his first solo exhibit at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Cameron is based in Baras, Rizal where he lives with his family. He deals with the abstract and is inspired by anything and everything that he encounters in his daily life to him, brass is the perfect combination of beauty, elegance and utility that allows him freedom to experiment to create memorable pieces that last a lifetime.
Cameron Castrillo's deep passion for art stems from his family's history. His grandfather, Santiago Castrillo, started a custome jewelry business that soon became a family affair, with four of his siblings joining in on the creative process. Cameron grew up in this environment surrounded by intricate process of metal sculpting, watching his father and uncles create stunning sculptures in brass and other metals.
In his teens, he worked as an apprentice during summer together with his cousins. It was this foundation which taught him the rudiments of metal sculpting, understanding the meticulous process and learning from his elders the figurative and abstract works in brass. His involvement and exposure with his uncle, has greatly inspired him to find his own artistic language and style.
