Biography
Janina Sanico is a contemporary artist from Tanauan City, Batangas. A secondary teacher by profession, she is also working on her passion as a visual artist and art teacher. Sanico is an experimental artist who explores "organic media" by extracting pigment from natural fruits and flowers and calling it "natural watercolor paints."
These are seen on different TV segments in GMA, like IBilib and Matanglawin on ABS-CBN, and she is recognized worldwide for her use of ashes from Taal Volcano.
Her works focus on love, dreams, and wishes. This lowbrow artist uses water-based media and loves to paint doll-like figures with unusual facial features in dream-like settings. Her whimsical ideas with a touch of Filipino folk culture are painted with vivid colors and are comparable to "Nursery Rhythms" for their cute and sweet thoughts but hidden metaphors in life.
Some of her paintings were exhibited at Art Asia, GSIS Museo ng Sining, Museo ni Jose Rizal – Calamba, Laguna, and Art Center. She was also featured in several magazines, like Daloy Likha magazine, Luna Art magazine, and Novice Magazine.
She is one of the Top Selling Artist awardees of Art Show Philippines, a well-known online art community in the Philippines, and the city government of Tanauan City, Batangas (Resolution No. 2022-098) recognized her works and achievements.
Aside from having these remarkable achievements in her life, she never stops thinking and doing paintings using distinct mediums and materials as a way of expressing her love, ideals of beauty, and imagination. She has also commissioned works by local and international art collectors and made more masterpieces, hoping to create another history in her life.
