Biography
Joel Rama Hubahib, a native of Iligan City on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Despite discovering his passion for artistry later in life, Joel has quickly risen to prominence in the art world, participating in various exhibitions and earning respect and recognition from fellow artists and art enthusiasts.
He holds a degree in Computer Management from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Currently, he works as a computer science teacher at the Philippine Science High School Central Mindanao Campus in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte. Joel’s ability to balance his teaching career with his passion for art is a testament to his dedication and commitment to both fields.
Joel’s journey as an artist began in his late 40s, making him a late bloomer in the art world. However, this late start has not hindered his progress or ambition. Joel fearlessly embraces the challenge of keeping up with local, national, and international artists, constantly pushing himself to create meaningful and impactful artwork.
Joel’s artwork has been showcased in numerous prestigious exhibitions, earning him respect and recognition from fellow artists and art enthusiasts alike. Notable highlights of his career include his participation in Kulay sa Tubig, an annual watercolor exhibit and competition held at SM Mall of Asia. Additionally, Joel has attended international art exhibits in Greece, Albania, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Germany, broadening his artistic horizons and gaining exposure to diverse artistic styles and cultures.
On a local level, Joel has collaborated on exhibits at renowned venues such as the GSIS Museum in Manila and the Philippine Heart Center. He has also been a part of the "Three-Man Show" in Fontina, Tibanga, and Iligan City, and has participated in multiple exhibits at Robinsons Iligan City, further establishing his presence in the local art scene.
Joel’s exceptional talent has garnered him numerous awards and accolades from esteemed art groups. His dedication and artistic competence were recognized when he was voted the "Outstanding Alumni in Arts" by Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology in 2018. This prestigious honor reflects his significant contributions to the field of the arts and his commitment to artistic excellence.
Joel’s passion for art extends beyond his personal endeavors. He currently serves as the president of Iligan Visual Artists in Iligan City, where he actively promotes the local art community and fosters collaboration among fellow artists. The group regularly exhibits at Robinsons Iligan and collaborates with the Local Government Unit of Iligan on projects such as arts month, Diyandi Festival 2023 during the city fiesta, and Paskuhan Festival during December. One of the group’s notable projects was the creation of a giant Christmas tree at the public plaza, showcasing their creativity and community involvement.
