Biography
Simply known as JQ in the art world, he started his career as a creative advertsing man right after college. He spent half of his life working with advertising giants, in various positions from Art Director to Executive Art Director to Creative Director. Additionally, he was also a Film Director for TV commercials and AVPs. Whilst still in advertising, in 2010, he accepted an offer to be a part-time faculty at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran where he taught Art Direction and Design. His works in advertising garnered awards from prestigious award-giving bodies such as the New York Festival, The Creative Guild, The Catholic Mass Media Awards, etc. He has also been a recipient of numerous awards and citations in Art and Illustration.
He retired from the glitter of the advertising world at the age of 54 and quietly took on book illustrations for a publishing company.
In the latter part of 2018, he has thrown his passion in painting and tried sculpture. His works are a mix of realism and impressionism using mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, and oil. His works always focused on one single visual that made it as the focal point, making sure that some elements around will not hinder the main visual. Always mesmerized by the details and intrecasies of the main subject made his works more realistic. His inspiration behind the subjects and ideas come from the travels and places that he had been to. In 2019, together with some university classmates, they formed a group called Dimensions and launched an exhibit at the Heart Center Gallery, Philippines. When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, he and some colleagues from the Dimensions group, formed another group which they called Grupong USTe. They continue to make noise in the art world. In April 2021, his entry to the International Online Coffee-painting competition by the International Watercolor Society in Tehran, Iran was awarded as one of the best top 40 entries from among thousands of works around the world. In the same year, he was invited by the Santuario de San Antonio for their SpectaculART auction.
Currently, he’s been participating in various group exhibits whenever an invite or opportunities arose. He sees himself as a passionate artist who will devote his lifetime painting.
Now, as he embraces a new chapter in his life as a full-time visual artist, each stroke of his brush, leaves an indelible mark on the art world, and his unwavering dedication promises to inspire generations to come.
