Biography
Hailing from Angono, known as the Philippines' art capital, Ovidio Espiritu inevitably grew up exposed to various artistic styles of Angono masters like Botong Francisco, Ang Kiu Kok, and the famous Blanco family of artists, yet he was able to arrive at a style and color chemistry uniquely his own: light and bright hues and arched lines resulting in distorted faces and pointed heads.
Espiritu is one of the founders of the Angono Artists Association, of which he became president in 1989.
He has judged in numerous photography and art competitions, such as those of the Camera Club of the Philippines, the Department of Education, Robinsons Land Corporation, and Planters Bank, among others. He has conducted several summer art workshops and art tutorials.
Espiritu has been exhibited in several art galleries in Metro Manila and in other Philippine cities.
His art philosophy is "Art is priceless and is a God-given gift to mankind. Art is around us. If you dream, imagine, and think of the color and composition of God's creation, you can see and create different dimensions that will influence your own personal style."
