Biography
Paul Dimalanta was born on June 22, 1950, here in Manila, the city he knows intimately, for here is where he achieved fame as an art student at the Philippine Women's University and finally and ultimately where his dreams were fulfilled as an accomplished artist, skilled designer, and likewise a well-known painter.
Wayback in Calauag, Quezon, where his parents hailed from, was where Paul Dimalanta traced his roots and lived for a while. His father, a businessman, saw lucky stars in the sky and prophesied that someday his son would be a great artist. Paul studied there for two years and didn't take long to create "Kamay ni Hesus," which up to now is a tourist attraction in Quezon. Paul astonished the travelers on the other side of the country with the finesse of his art. It was among his first major "bras" which is very popular in Quezon nowadays. "Kamay ni Hesus" is among his crowning glories.
Paul Dimalanta was also commissioned to make a mural at the Gandara Church in Samar, and from thereon, he began to do more work than he could finish. He did art work in the movie industry under the directorships of Eddie Romero and Cirio H. Santiago of Premiere Productions. He was also asked to do the set designs for the movie "Last Chance", an American film.
From 1976 to 1985, he was a professor at PWU College of Fine Arts, where he impressed many with his artistic genius. The honors that Paul received and achieved are countless, like the stars. Paul Dimalanta has fulfilled the dreams of his parents. Today, he is Calauag, Quezon's artistic folk hero. He is also the pride of Philippine Women's University and, of course, the City of Manila.
Paul Dimalanta has fulfilled the prophecy of the stars; he now enjoys his success and esteem knowing that his artworks are being enjoyed not only here but across the oceans, and he deserves every inch of it.
