Biography
Rainer Duhaylungsod (born 1990) kindled his artistic flame at a young age, sketching nature and portraits before honing his craft with dedication. His journey as an artist commenced in the realm of pastel painting. Early on, Rainer found recognition through consistent wins in online monthly competitions within the art community of Let's Paint, comprising of hundreds of members all over the country.
In 2018, Rainer's talent shone brighter as he was lauded as a Semi-Finalist in the prestigious National Philippine Pastel Artists, Inc. Competition. The subsequent year marked a pivotal shift in his artistic journey as he transitioned to using oil as his primary medium.
Driven by an unwavering aspiration to pursue his passion and excel as a painter, Rainer left his hometown of Pagadian City for Cebu, embarking on an apprenticeship under the mentorship of the renowned artist and Living Master of the Art Renewal Center, Orley Ypon. This transformative experience not only enriched his technical prowess but also instilled in him a profound understanding of the essence of an artist's life and purpose. Since then, he has actively participated in numerous art exhibitions in prestigious galleries in Manila, showcasing his works, fostering meaningful connections through his art.
In November 2022, Rainer completed a two-month artist residency at the Linangan Art Residency program, guided by the esteemed master of Social Realism, Manny Garibay, in the company of Otto Neri, Mark Justiniani, Renato Habulan, and Orley Ypon.
Noteworthy among his recent accomplishments, Rainer stood out as a finalist in the esteemed Portrait Society of America Competition in the Non-Commissioned Portrait Category in the preceding year, showcasing his exceptional piece titled "Angel Precious."
Rainer's artistic style is a fusion of painterly realism and impressionism, drawing inspiration from the works of revered artists like Nikolai Fechin, Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, William Turner, Joaquin Sorolla, and Juan Luna.
Residing in Amadeo, Cavite, Rainer Duhaylungsod channels his passion into his art, embodying the spirit of a dedicated full-time artist.
