Roman Pedro "Doc Arpi" Macaraeg Baldemor
Roman Pedro "Doc Arpi" Macaraeg Baldemor earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Centro Escolar University. At the age of 52, he embarked on a journey into the world of art, utilizing it as a means to process the emotions stemming from his mother's passing. This endeavor gradually evolved into a full-fledged art career.
His inaugural art exhibit took place at the Kamalig Foundation Building in April 2019. Following that, a Pre-Art Exhibition was hosted at Kape Kesada after the exhibition proposal received approval from the National Commission for Culture and Arts in October 2022. The third exhibition was held at the NCCA Gallery in Intramuros, Manila, from December 2021 to the end of January 2022. This marked Doc Arpi's very first national art show. Subsequently, the Sopistikada Exhibition followed in July 2022.
Doc Arpi's artistic focus revolves around women as his primary subjects – portrayed as warm, soft, compassionate, elegant, beautiful, and sophisticated. These depictions mirror the diverse facets of the artist's inner self. His representation of women encapsulates the ideal Filipino and Paetenian woman, endeavoring to capture their self-perception and convey a respectful portrayal of women in the realm of art.
Currently, Doc Arpi also holds the position of municipal councilor in Paete, Laguna. The multifaceted Doc Arpi not only dedicates his time to the noble role of a public servant in his town but also unveils his artistic prowess as a makeup artist and stylist extraordinaire. In addition to these amazing achievements, he paints a vibrant picture of collective artistic expression by offering free "art workshops" to his fellow town residents, sharing the joy of creativity.
