Biography
ROMUALDO ROMMEL PEREZ
FIRE AND ICE
This interplay captures the reality of life in the Bicol region: living in harmony with a beautiful yet volatile natural wonder while finding joy and sustenance in everyday moments. In contrast to the fiery volcano stands the cool, comforting relief of local ice cream (sorbetes) held by the vendor.
MAY TENGA ANG BULAKLAK
The ear-shaped flower instead of a traditional bloom, the woman cradles a surreal flower formed in the shape of a human ear. This transforms nature itself into a listening entity, suggesting that secrets are never truly hidden in a tight-knit society
MAY PAKPAK ANG BALITA 2
(From the Salawikain series)
The painting uses the traditional Filipino proverb (salawikain) to comment on community life, rumor, and the interconnectedness of rural society using my usual sorbetero subject.
IN THE ZONE
A sorbetero pushes his cart through a city’s fragile, in-between space — the kind of corner where tension hangs in the air. It’s about being in the zone: when your work, your purpose, and your calm matter more than the noise of the place you’re in.
Studied Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas. He is a freelance visual/graphic artist, but most of the time dabbles with his paintings that exude the nuances of Magical Realism, Surrealism and Social Realism. He works with watercolor, acrylics and assemblages.
