Ulysses "Uly" Imbang, OTRP is a freelance artist who was awarded the Jose Joya Golden Medalion back in 1986.
As early as his elementary years, he was active in enjoying his craft and had joined many art competitions. Supported by his school, the University of the Philippines Integrated School in Diliman, Quezon City, he won first place in the Nestle’s On the Spot Drawing Contest and the Pag aalay Sa Negros On the Spot Drawing Contest, among others, organized by the University of the Philippines in Diliman.
He was encouraged by his late parents to pursue Fine Arts at UP, but he decided to take a B.S. Tourism instead. Still unsatisfied with this degree, he took up Occupational Therapy at Our Lady of Fatima University, where he excelled and pursued a satisfying career providing professional occupational therapy specializing in Pediatrics. He has been serving these children and their families for at least 15 years and counting. Even now, he continues to enjoy his work as it provides him with inspiration reflected in his artworks and serves as a therapy regimen for selected kids.
His art skill was never lost, as over time, he was able to intertwine it with his professional expertise. Art class and art therapy programs for children with special needs have become his specialty and the highlight of his field, allowing him to relate and truly enjoy his work. During his spare days every week, he never stops painting or drawing at least one piece to reflect on his previous experiences in life, especially those related to family dynamics. As the years go by, given this wonderful profession of serving kids with special needs and his undying zest for the arts, he believes that families should incorporate arts into their daily activities with their children. It is an intimate and unbounded activity that warms the child's self-expression and communication with the family, serving as a medium of reflection for the parents' plans.
His recent works now focus more on figurative painting with a striking touch within the bounds of Filipino family culture and traditions. He is currently aiming to complete at least 50 masterpieces a year.
He resides in Rodriguez, Rizal, where he has his art studio.
