Von Eric Enriquez (°1995, Manila, Philippines) is an artist who works in a variety of media such as watercolor, oil paint, colored pencils, and ballpoint pen. He is a Registered Social Worker and often takes daily life as subject matter while commenting on the everyday social situations that is happening in the Society. Enriquez wants to amplify the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and alienation.
His artworks appear as realistic or surrealistic images in which fiction and reality meet. Time and memory always play a key role. With Plato’s allegory of the cave in mind, he makes work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented.
His works are characterised by the use of everyday objects and situation in an atmosphere of simple mentality in which recognition plays an important role. By applying a poetic and often tranquil yet complex details, he often creates work that talks about a certain societal issue that is stimulate the viewers mind to discover the story behind the images.
His works are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in art. Von Eric Enriquez currently lives and works in Cavite.
